Zendaya Takes a Stand for Healthy Body Image, Calls Out Unnecessary Retouching

19-year-old Zendaya took to her Instagram account to speak out against the unnecessary photoshopping of her image found in Modeliste magazine. Nearly as soon as the magazine hit newstands, she put up side-by-side image of the magazine's photo and the original.

“These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love,” she wrote in the caption.
The response from the magazine was swift. Editor-in-chief Amy McCabe responded.

"Upon review of the final edited images ... together as a collaborative between myself, Zendaya and her parents, we concluded that the images had been retouched to an extent that was not acceptable and not true to the values and ideals we represent and promote in our publication.”

Editors have already pulled the issue.

“We understand that retouching of photos is a sensitive subject not only in the fashion industry but across all media,” Modeliste said in a statement.
The good news is the editorial will be rereleased with the unedited images though there's no word on when, exactly, that will happen.
